I was just thinking we have a lot of new members and no place to incourage them to say hi and introduce themselves. What about starting a new members forum where we can all welcome them to the saturnfans family? I think that would be pretty cool. We have one over on GAOC and it incourages people to post after they join.

It is a good idea, presuming they could find it. Perhaps a link from the site's homepage or something.
You could also start a lurkers sign-in but make it so that you could not actually post anything...

Hey, Piney, you and I agree on something now (although in all of my 10 posts, we've only bantered once).

I like the idea, but I don't want to create too many forums and have visitors get lost on the main page. The S-Series Forum is almost ready to be opened, and I've got another forum in the works as well. Let me think about this for a little while longer.
Thanks for your patience,
Charlie

Sure it is...
You don't need a seperate forum, what you can do is put it at the top of the general info forum and make it stick there. Perhaps use a red font or something so that newbies will see it.
Sure the S series forum is coming....

I agree that this should be a part of this forum. I had never used a forum or message board before and have had to catch on to how it all works. I did not reallize that replying to a post even from months past brings it back to the front again. I thought it just added it to the thread and it stayed on the old pages where it was. I would have enjoyed an info page explaining how it all works. Perhaps a combination welcome/greeting and a page with pointers on how it all works could help new folks find their way around.

Im all for such an idea, but it could fragment the message board -- which can be detremental of you do not have enough users to fill the additional "void".
I made the mistake of creating too many forums for a particularly small userbase. It ended up reducing activity and fragmenting conversation.

Letting lurkers post is a dangerous idea. It opens the boards up to people flaming or posting nasty comments to everyone without any need to register or accountability. At least if someone registers and starts to bad mouth or insult people the admin can ban them immediately.
Anyone who wants to be heard will take the time and effort to register, reply to the email addy check, and start posting.
I just joined today and made an introduction post in the Ion section to say Hi.

Instead of clicking into the forum for newbies to post Intro, maybe they can write this Intro work through registration page and the system will stick that to the forum by default....

I believe the lurker idea was geared towards giving them the chance to see everything without the ability to post. Yes, accountability is important because people are quick to jump from board to board and write small hate mail. Sad but true.

Just wanted to introduce myself to the Saturnfans family. My name is Steve, and I live Northwest of Houston in Tomball. I bought my car new in June of 2002 (SL "SIlver Blue Edition"). The car already has 21,300 miles on it. My mother bought her LS2 brand new in 2000. I wish my car had that V-6 though. Can anyone tell me where to get the OEM fog lights for my car. Since my car was just the "SL",......fog lights werent an option. This seems like a great site, and the people in here are very nice! Will be posting pictures of my car soon.

So what is the difference between a jr. member and a sr. member etc. How does one attain Master member status?
