Hi all,

I have a 2004 Saturn Vue with a 2.2L and awd cvt tranny.

it has a code p1882 and will not go over 20mph, like being stuck in first gear in a normal tranny. Also has some whine in the tranny while the engine revs up.

What do I do first?

thanks

Shoot it and get a different car. If you think I'm kidding, wait until you get the bill for the new transmission. Seriously, find some gangstas in your neighborhood and pay them $100 to steal it while it will still go at all.

Not the help i was looking for, I realize these have tranny issues, was hoping a tech might be on here that has worked on these cvt's

I think the only repair is to replace the transmission. There isn't any way to service it. If that is indeed the problem, you are looking at many thousands of dollars.

1saxman was just being blunt and up front as you'll quickly find out. Search past threads about cvt issues and you'll appreciate the frank opinions. GM/Saturn caused grief when introducing the continuously variable transmission that was proven to be unsuccessful with liability issues long after discontinuing the cvt's. Simply discontinuing cvt's is tacit admission of inadequate research and development. Read about settlement issues to wean owners and GM of future liabilities. There is no one here that will give technical advice about repairs to cvt's; 1)there may be few, if any, technical repair specialists thoroughly familiar with cvt's, 2)those that are familiar may not see any incentive (monetary?) or not have access to parts to support repairs if this were possible, 3)cvt's are not as durable as well proven manual/automatic transmissions as GM had presumed when choosing the cvt model for use in Vues, and 4)cvt's may not be reparable since there doesn't seem to be much technical information that usually accompanies a product that's been manufactured for some years and is part of many other vehicle models to put out information on the 'net or possibly on youtube. The technical complexity of cvt's, I believe, is the interface between electronics, hydraulics used to control the two pairs of sheaves that comprises the basic cvt, and the wear of these sheaves and expensive belt. To date, there doesn't seem to be any tear down pictures of cvt's and all the possibilities of normal wear and tear as has been done with all other transmissions. The lack of such information may be another hint of the difficulty for repairing cvt's.

Click on the "we rebuild cvt's" link and then click on "2003 Saturn Vue CVT Transmission"

BTW, I'm not a Saturn tech or transmission specialist. Just fascinated with man's abilities to create something new to harness energy.........

Here are your options:

1. Replace the transmission
2. Sell it as is

frankyg ... I know nada about the CVT but have attached service manual extract for diagnostic trouble code P1882.

I suppose the extract could provide a few helpful hints, but keep in mind the procedures are prepared for GM techs - using GM test equipment.

Also, you can find several fluid related files in post # 3 of following thread:
