I had my rear main seal replaced yesterday and when they shop put the tranny back on there was a service vehicle soon light on. Code was P1740(don't remember exactly) but the message was the voltage from the 4th clutch pressure switch was too low (low resistance)

Mechanic cleared the code, drove it around and it came back on. The car still drives fine, this was an indie shop so he wasn't too sure if this type of thing happens after R&I of the tranny. He wants me to call him back today after he consults the dealership for possible known issues.

I read on another thread where a member had their torque converter replaced and another member said to have the 4th cluch pressure switch assembly replaced at the same time since it would throw a DTC afterward. Anyone know how much this part is roughly? the switch itself isn't hard to get too, if it's not expensive i might just replace it.

Anyone have any ideas? I checked the wiring last night for shorts and dirty connectors but no joy.

may be because it's early but i can't see how to edit my post...

OK so i'm mistaken about the DTC, it wasn't P1740... It's apparent i don't remember the exact code, P1740 i got from a google search "vue 4TH Clutch Pressure Switch". But now that i'm skimming through the DTC's on alldata, it has to either be P0872 or P0873, i'm going to call the tech later for the exact one.

Now going over the diagnostic procedure for this code it pretty much says, check all wires for loose connections and shorts which i've done. After that it says to replace the switch if no problems were found.

Before i go and buy anything i'm still hoping for someone to pipe up who's had any experience after having some tranny work done.

whenever we remove the engine or trans here it a75% of the time itll throw that code afterward, we alsoways just sell a new switch with the job heh, havent really figured out why though...

does it fix the problem though?

I don't care about buying a new switch, but @ $86 CAD i want it to actually fix the prob and the SVS light to not come on again.

so i picked up the new switch and installed it (5 minute job), problem solved.

SaturnTech, your service dept. seriously has no idea why this happens? If it was common you'd think there would be a tsb or something.

Either way i owe you one, i would have had my car gone for another day if you didn't tell me what you did.

No worries.... I just have a curiosity as to what the root cause is, I passed the info along to the tech who worked on my car as well.

Thanks again

I've done dozens of these and had the same problem. The 2007 models have the switch inserted into the trans case sideways instead of verticle. I have never had a problem with these. Yeah we still are wondering WTF also.
