Like a dummy, I locked my ONLY set of keys in my 03 Saturn Vue (I now have one in a magnetic box under the back)
So the tow guy had to BREAK the lock mechanism or whatever with the SlimJim. He told me it would break the lock somehow and I signed the waiver. So I want to fix this as it is getting old having to unlock the door with the key every time. Also, the alarm and other doors no longer respond to the remote. Someone mentioned that it might be actuator. What else could it be and what should I look for? And how should I go about fixing this without going to the dealer? I don't like going there as I always seem to leave feeling like a chump!!

ashlee - I'm no expert on doors and locking ... but, if you can provide a few more details there are far brighter folks on this forum who might be able to assist.

1. Will both the inside and outside door handles still open door?

2. Do any of the auto-lock functions work ... like when you put car in gear ... do the locks cycle ... on all doors.

3. If the driver door locking device does not operate, it could be a broken wire, if you can hear something click in door when putting vehicle in gear - but door does not lock ... its probably mechanical linkage between solenoid and locking apparatus.

4. Either a broken wire or mechanical linkage could be fixed by someone other than a dealer, as long as they have a few tools and basic mechanical knowledge.

5. Regarding the problem with the "alarm" (horn?), first step is make sure the battery is good in any and all fobs. Did these functions quit when the slimjim was used?
