So i'm getting ready to order this and do the change for my 100k service and there's a kit at rock auto that has the t-belt, water pump, 2 tensioner pully's, and 1 idler pully.

I saw the writeup from nitroussaturn and others who have ordered this kit, does it come with a new gasket for the water pump?

Also, once i got the timing marks lined up and the belt comes off are the cams going to move easily on their own or will they stay still?

Get a new water pump while you're in there, and you'll get a new gasket.................

(at 100k, the water pump is about due anyway)

I just had my timing belt replaced at 170k. Yeh a little late.
cost me $800.00 !? Holy expensive. I did not do the water pump cuz there was no money left and the shop never said I should replace that anyway.
(likely another way to get 5 more hours of shop time out of me at $88/hr)

I could sell the old timing belt as brand new. absolutely no wear on it at all. Its still shiney. I asked another mechanic if he accidently put the old one back in. (I always ask for my old parts back if they are small)

However the timing belt tensioner at 170k was the item of concern. It was in bad shape and needed replacement for sure.
Not to say you wouldnt change the belt while you're there, but if it wasnt for the tensioner, that belt would surely go 200k and likely more.

From what i've read the belt probably could go longer but i don't really want to find out how long it will last... Car has 160,000 KM on it (99419.39 miles) and i figure if i need to change the t-belt once, then i'll also replace everything else while i'm in there so i don't have to go back later.

I'm doing the 100k service myself now that i decided to get my rear main seal fixed:tear:... I was going to have it done in a shop before but now that i've spent some dough on the rear main i'm trying to save what i can without skimping on the maintenance.

ive done this on mine and another 3.5 vue and the cams never moved, they might move a thousandth or two when the belt is removed but once the new tensioner/belt are on in pulls them back where they were

I just replaced the timing belt on my buddy's 4 cyl Honda Civic and it was a piece of cake. The hardest thing was removing the harmonic balancer bolt! Had to break out the torches! :hothead: It came off with ease after that. :)
