I changed thr PTU fluid in my '03 VUE today. I have just under 30K miles on it, but I figured it has been 6 years so it can only help to keep things clean.
The fluid was brown, but did not look too bad. I did not know there was a magnet on the drain plug, and was surprised how much crap was built up on it!:) The last bottle of Versatrak fluid I got last week just cost me $15. I went to a Chevy dealership near me, where the parts guy told me they recently went out of business, and he was packing things up. He was nice enough to get me the one bottle I wanted and only asked for $15 cash.

PTU = power transfer unit?
Yeah it's better to change fluids too often :)

PTU=Power Takeoff Unit.
It runs/powers the driveshaft to the rear wheels.

Termite,

Where are the two plugs you show in the pictures located on the transmission? I have had the transmission serviced twice. Once by the dealer at 50K and again just recently at 98K as part of the 100k service. I did not notice on either invoice a charge for Versatrak fluid. I wonder if they serviced the PTU when they did the transmission. I have the same vehicle 03 3.0L AWD.

JimJohn1213, here is a post where I showed the Power Transfer Unit (not on the transmission), and its drain and fill plugs. http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129442 ;)

PTU service would NOT be included in transmission service, and Royal Purple Synchromax is ideal for this purpose on the '02 and '03. '04-'07 takes hypoid gear lube.
