Hello, I have a problem similar to this thread saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50387&highlight=high+pitch+sound

When the engine is cold, I can drive for around 3-5 miles and the sound will then appear when I let off the accelerator. While I am driving or at a stop, if I press the accelerator just a tad the noise goes away. If I let off just a tad the noise comes back. THere have been a couple times that I have driven for miles and the sound doesn't rear it's ugly head *Usually when I am trying to show someone* but for the most part it does it everyday on the way to work intermittently all the way to and from. Now When I get to work or get home which is about 25miles, I put my vehicle in park and the rpms start to rise gradually until I turn off the engine. If I put it in drive the rpms kick down for what I assume are obvious reasons. I have listened for vaccum leaks but I cannot seem to find any anywhere. I noticed that when the rpms are going haywire, if I disconnect the plug from the sensor at my air filter, the rpms kick back down and the sound will only appear when I raise the rpms/press accelerator. The noise *Seems* to be coming from the air intake flapper area.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you have four or six cylinder?

Will help when searching for various bulletins.

I'm sorry... It is a 6cyl 3.0L AWD

Although I know that pdf was for a 4cyl I pulled the dipstick for the sake of
elimination and the noise didn't go away.

Also thank you for your time with this :) I am going to run it upto
the local schucks tomorrow and see if they can't pull a code off of it.
The check engine light also came on the same time this started.

Oddly enough, I ran it through emissions a month early to avoid any rush... This
happened right after that... If I hadn't ran it through early they wouldn't have
tested it :(

Thanks for the update.

I'll see if there's a squeal fix for the 3.0. Please post the code(s) if present ... they are very helpful ... there are 3.0 owners on this forum who have this stuff memorized.

Just to let you know, the code was PO171 which basically told me there was
a leak somwhere so I pulled out the stethescope at work and started probing
around and found out that when I had the spark plugs replaced there was a bolt
not tightened near the air intake flapper... I tightened that down and the
squeal is gone and check engine shut off. Thank you for your time with this..
I appreciate it much.
