View Full Version : Odd water leak

I've suddenly developed a water leak that is quite severe.

At first, I noticed the bottom of the driver's floorboard was wet. Then one day coming home from work in the rain, water started dripping out of the top windshield trim that separates the windshield from the driver's side door glass. This is the vertical plastic piece.

I also noticed that water was making a light stream down the driver's side kick panel.

The car is an 02 Vue with the sunroof. I expect the drains for the cowl are stopped up. I assume the T-top drains into the pillar and uses the same drains.

Has anybody seen this before? Can anyone tell me where the drains for the cowl area are?

I doubt that its the cowl drain. it's open at both ends, the openings are about 4 inches square(See attached photo). There's also a drain in the center that drains into the rear of the engine compartment. You may have a stopped up or split sunroof drain tube.

Hope this helps :)

I did a little diagnosing today. I poured water down the cowl, and it came out the bottom with no interior leaks. I poured water on the T-tops, and it began leaking. I found it was coming in at the door gasket at the top of the door. It looks like water running under the plastic piece the roof rack is attached to may be leaking.

I'm guessing all you have to do is pull the piece off by removing the torx screws, and silicone the threads of the screw. Is silicone caulk the best sealant?

I'm open to suggestions.
