I searched over the forum and have found some tips here and there, but no thread really dedicated to a step by step for clearing out the front headlights on the vue.

Was wondering if one of you tech savvy guys could help me out here.

Note: Just in case "clearing headlights" isn't the correct way to say it. What I mean is removing the orange lens from the headlights.

Thanks in advance.

What year VUE? What is the specific problem: debris in the assembly, or scratches in the lens housing?

The owner's manual tells you how to remove the assembly. Do you have yours?

More info would be helpful to us so that we may better respond to your query.

There is no problem, I am doing it for looks. I have an amber bulb that will blink amber/orange when I turn so I am not breaking any laws by doing it. I just hate the big chunk of orange in the lights at all time. The clear/clean look appeals to me and I figured there has got to be some members on here looking to do the same.

It's a 2006 FWD VUE

Put your headlights in the oven for 20 minutes at about 280 degrees. Then they should more or less pull apart, and you can either remove the orange, or paint those pieces. People tend to paint the reflector black because it looks less awkward on most vehicles.

EDIT: Not trying to get on your case, but it'd probably be better to post stuff like this in the mods section. People sorta only post in here for broken stuff, whereas modding is more for tweaks and upgrades.

Whoa! 20 minutes in the oven? That sounds dangerous....are you sure about that?

Also, sorry about posting this in the wrong area, I thought the MOD section was for finished MODS & Photos.

*shrug* mine came apart fine. It just liquified the glue and that was it. They seem to be in perfectly good shape still. A lot of people like to use a heat gun, but it leaves much more room for you to screw it up. If it makes you feel better, you can use a slightly lower temperature for a longer period of time. But that's pretty much standard procedure for taking apart headlights.

How do you put them back together? Is the glue that you melt sticky enough still? Or do I need a new adhesive? What kind of adhesive would I need?

Some people try to re-use it, I'm planning on just using new glue, probably a silicone glue or something along those lines. But theoretically if you cook the lights again the glue should melt again allowing you to put them back together, but I'd go around them with some silicone or something to prevent any leaks anyways.

I tore mine apart to put in projectors, and I'm not too fond of the idea of cooking my projectors.

Many people use marine grade epoxy because it provides an almost perfect seal and should last through pretty much any weather condition.
