Hey guys,

I need to do a brake job on my 06 Vue, 3.5L motor. The front pads are pretty worn down, not much life left, I haven't pulled the drums yet to see how the rear brakes look yet. Just curious if there is a DIY online for the brakes. I plan on buying the Haynes manual, just haven't picked it up yet. Also, anyone have any recommendations for pads? I plan to have the rotors/drums turned, as the car only has 60K miles on it right now. Unless these are the type of rotors that cannot be turned like on my jetta...

Thanks guys, as always, the help is much appreciated.

I've got an 06 saturn vue, I just changed the pads on the front a couple weeks ago. It was pretty straight forward. Probably the easiest brake job I have ever done, if you have any knowledge of how to change pads you're not going to have a problem. There is an O'Reilly auto parts store down the street from me, so I got my pads from there, I went with their brand, "brakebest" select grade, which I believe is their medium grade, the next one up was Wagner for $61.99 The select cost me 34.99. My rotors were still in good shape so I didn't mess with them, although they looked easier to change as well. The whole process probably only took me about 20 minutes.

As far as the back brakes go, I don't know a thing about drum brakes. I need to educate myself in drum brakes though!

I had an 04 vue and I had the front brakes done at a shop, they turned my rotors as a "courtesy" for me ($160 for front brakes). So I am guessing that they can be turned, but it was no time after they were turned I was feeling pulsing when I braked.

Good luck

Disc brakes are pretty easy. I have experience on several different cars (and a few motorcycles) with disc brakes, but i haven't done drums yet. They seem a little more complicated to replace. I'll probably end up going with autozone/checker, or some other readily available pads too.
