To make a long story short, I have a buddy in the used car business and he told me that the person who rebuilds transmissions for him told him that the Saturn Vue has the worst availability of aftermarket parts and therefore she cannot rebuild a trans for the Vue. The only option is to buy one new from Saturn and therefore costs ~$5k. I was wondering if this is true and if it is, if it applies to the 3.5 honda motor, or possibly just the disastrous CVT trans. This would certainly be a deciding factor in trading in my vue, so I figured I'd ask around who has done what around here. Thanks guys :D

They must be talking about the VTi transmission...

The 3.5L uses the transmission used in the Honda Pilot, Ridgeline, Odyssey, Acura MDX, RL, TL, and pretty much anything else Honda makes with a V6 within the past... 6 or so years.

I know, just curious as to who has had it done and how much they paid. I sense this lady is full of hot air, but would rather confirm it before I trust my instincts :)

You have nothing to worry about with the 3.5 V6. Also, even if you bought say a 2004 with the CVT trans I don't think you would have any worries about the availability of parts. I believe your friend was misinformed, but that happens when things are passed along by mouth... remember that childhood game "whisper down the alley":D
