ok first of i have a 98sl2 and am puting about 20 to 25hp bolt ons
now i figured that i would upgrade my already good basic plugs with the DirectHits Ignition system.
Now has any one had problems with these and are they worth it.
i have stock every thing so I have to replace my plugs anyways, and though spend the little extra and get the DirectHits Ignition
and with these will i need a new coil
any comments are greatful

I would definitely suggest getting them! These are the only plug/wire combo that will give you power not Just restore it!! I'm gonna be ordering mine very soon! And im gonna replace my coil packs with MSD's i think it will be better to drop in new coil packs with the Direct Hits for optimized power, and you figure the car is probably in need of them anyway, Hope that helped!

UM, if YOU don't actually have them...how can you say they give you power??? I've heard otherwise. I've also heard they are very bad if you're planning on running nitrous or turbo, as they are supposed to advance the timing a hair...but whats a hair gonna do?

the problem with running nitrous is that they have more powerful sparks, normaly you would run a step or 2 colder plugs to keep things happy in there. I have had them in for a little while and love them, I haven't put it on the dyno yet and may have to wait untill it warms up and gets more humid to better match the last conditions that I made runs under. also you dont' need to change your coil packs.

well i actaully have them for my 97 SC1.. and frankly compared with the other mods i have on the car, i can't tell what those wires and plugs are doing...1. The Wires i got are way too long, infact i think XRC sent me the wrong style wires... so for me having longer wires than the factory, i believe I am losing power, as oppose to gaining? and Obe hasn't got back to me yet, to tell me about them, becasue he has never opened a box of Directhits yet... go figure

Strangely I seem to remember him opening a box of them in front of me once.
In regards to the theory of losing power due to the extra distance: you are correct you will lose some power based upon the length the current has to travel and also based on what sort of conductor is used to carry it. But unless you are dealing with say 18 gauge wire with a very small load being carried the extra distance in that a couple of inches make you will have no problems. With the power that is sent along with the size of the wire is enough that you would have to add a couple of feet to be able to make a difference on a dyno.

you can try msd's stacker ignition. this goes on top of your original ignition.it will not set off any codes. i tried direct*hits on my motorcycle once. they worked crappy.it would not start the bike, and it would just foul plugs.one small device i have tried on my friend's toyota,is called astrojet. they are at www.astrojet.com . my friend noticed mileage go up,and he is not into cars or knows how to work on them. they are only 20 bucks shipped and you only need 2!! nology and direct*hit work by giving you a very high, but very short duration spark. it is way shorter duration than even a stock spark. all these are,are small capacitors!!i can't see a very short spark giving any real gains. i am going to either try msd or the astrojet.

Got bad news for you. The astrojet is just a capacitor :o: My dad bought one of these things way back in the 80's it didn't do any good.
Oh and the direct hits/nology wires......Crap.

Abe,
I wouldn't go as far as to say they're crap. However, you're just as well off to by NGK plugs with a good quality wire (Magnecor, SPS, MSD, etc.)

Yeah they are crap.
They generate so much RFI that some dyno's will not work when you have the Nology/Direct Hits system on your car. That much RFI cannot be good for any of the onboard computer systems. Add in that you don't gain any appreciable HP and the fact that Nology wires fail at random and without warning and they are crap.
And you are right you are just as well (much better in fact) going with some good MSD wires and NGK plugs.

I would agree with both of them...becasue soon as i get the loot, i am switching plugs and wires..... At least I know just about everyone uses either NGK, or MSD... and Autozone carries both so i won't have to wait weeks for the order....

ok so i might as well go with NGK, or MSD,
I will go with these since poeple are always saying they have no problems with them.
