Anyone know how to safely remove the factory paint from plastic fascia without melting/degrading/effecting the plastic underneath?? Are there any paint removers out there specifically for plastics?? Tx

Doesn't that "aircraft stripper" you can buy in aerosol cans at autozone/wallymart work on plastic?

Why do you want to strip it? If the original paint is adhering well, I'd just paint over it. Just hit it with prepsol to remove any existing wax/silicone/dirt and then wet sand with 1500grit before painting.

I want to remove it because it is all spider cracked and parts of the bumper need a little repair because it was in an accident. I bought a used Redline rear fascia and want to get it prepped (and painted one day once I find a front fascia).

I was told by the supply shop that urethane part stripper in a spray bomb would work on the fascia. Any autobody guys out there?

I am not an autobody guy, but that will work. I'm just not sure if the stuff is friendly to the plastic. I think it won't be that much extra work to just leave the existing paint and sand/wetsand/prime/paint. Even if you manage to strip all that crap off, you're still going to have to sand it, apply the plastic adhesion promoting prime, paint, clearcoat.

Take some before and after pics. I'm thinking of taking off the "chrome" skid plates on the front/rear and painting them to match the body color. So I'm curious to see how you make out.

I wish it was that easy on the vues with the plain black plastic bumpers.... I wanna match it to the body but don't think it is possible

This is for a redline bumper cover so it's already painted. It's just beat up pretty bad so I don't want to start with a crappy base and end up with a crappy end result.

That is completely different. That is a chrome plating process on plastic, not a paint.

The "chrome" is just a plastic film. Not all that different from paint and the prep would be the same. I had good luck matching the replacement door trim (after the old piece randomly fell off).

The chrome coating on plastic is still an actual plating process.

Beats me, but I suspect it's still going to be the same as painting a plastic part for my purposes. wet sand, prime, paint, clear

It 'should' be, I thought you wanted to strip it. My confusion

Would the bumpers from the '06-7 models fit the '02-5? If so, maybe you can get one and paint that to match. Yu may be lucky enough to find one that's already the same color as yours. I know I would love to have body color bumpers and side sills I like the "plasta-chrome" trim on the rear.
