well our 3.5 redline just hit 105,000 ive already done new plugs, and the trans fluid a couple of times. i got everything to do the timing belt myself.
new timing belt, tensioner, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, waterpump, dexcool and a new serpentine belt.
the timing set came with instructions and it looks very straight forward said everything i was planning on doing anyway, like any timing belt job on a transverse mounted engine.
so wish me luck and hopefully ill snap some pics along the way

You totally should write a walk-through. If it's do-able DIY that'd be pretty freaking sweet.
Don't forget about the Valve adjustment.

Ask him how we can advance the timing a little bit on the engine! I need more power!

if you have the time do a write up on everything you can... The Timing belt would be really handy, alldata says you need some special tools. Can your friend confirm if they are actually needed?
I saw a write up on the valve adjustment but the link is on my work PC... i'll try to find it when i go in tonight.

Have you done a timing belt before? Maybe your friend can lend you the cam lock tool. That will make things MUCH easier. Otherwise, if you're off by even one tooth when you put the belt back on, the engine will not run right (trust me, I've done it...hehe).
Good luck!

yup ive done several timing belts/chains.
same goes for any vechile 1 tooth will throw it off.
it has marks for proper line up,did you turn the motor so that they were lined up before you pulled the belt?
also have to remove the plugs and spin the motor bye hand 5 times to make sure it stays lined up before putting back together

Heh. I've probably done a 100 timing belt jobs. Just wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting into. Good luck. It shouldn't be that difficult.

There is no cam lock tool for the 3.5 LT engine.

I look forward to a how-to on this... FSM is only so helpful sometimes. I'm a bit intimidated by this one, but I'm sure I can get my Dad to stupervise... and let me use his air tools. :D
