Ok first the stats, 2006 Vue 4 cyl. 41000 miles. Check engine light came on a few days ago. This morning I scanned for codes and none were found. Any ideas? Also, not sure if it is related but the T/C light comes on several times a week when stopped then goes off once i start moving again. Any help would be great, thanks.

If the check engine light is on, there MUST be a code. Stop in any Autozone and have them scan it for you for free.

Normally I would agree with you, strange though, i used my scanner and had a friend who also has a scanner try it. both came back with no codes and said passed all tests. very confused here. starting to think maybe electrical issue since T/C light is intermitent.

Did you just put gas in it? If so, check your gas cap and make sure it's tight. Sometimes, if it's not tightened all the way, the tank won't pressurize and you check engine light will come on. Ford used to have a seperate light for the gas cap but GM used the SES/ CES/ MIL light. If the cap is loose, tighten it and after a few drive cycles the light should turn off.

Are we dealing with a "Service Engine Soon" light here, or a "Service" light with a wrench?

service engine soon light (picture of an engine) not the wrench.

Could this be the BCM. I read in other posts about lights on the dash coming on for no apparent reason. The Check engine light is on one day and not the next, plus the TC light comes and goes also.

You could disconnect battery ground cable for a few minutes to reset logic in various units, including BCM, to see if this affects the intermittent light.

I'm not sure about the relearn cycle but battery replacement instructions for my 03 Ford pickup reminds to operate the vehicle normally but be aware of idle, acceleration and shifting differences until the electronics relearns the driving pattern.

I've disconnected the battery on my 05 V-6 AWD Vue several times and don't recall noting operating differences after reconnect.

I recall reading something about ABS sensors for one or more wheels becoming intermittent and causing one or more IPC lights to cycle on / off.

I extracted and attached a few traction control notes if interested (for 05 FWD Vue).

Traction Control System (TCS)

The Traction Control System (TCS) compares front wheel speeds to rear wheel speeds to determine if drive wheels lose traction. The TCS activates when drive wheel speed exceeds speed of non-drive wheels by a calibrated value. This allows the driver to maintain acceleration and directional stability while accelerating on low traction surfaces.

The TCS limits wheel slip during acceleration when one or more of the drive wheels lose traction. The brake switch must be off for TCS to operate.
The ABS control module monitors wheel speed output and compares drive wheel to non-drive wheel values to detect wheel slip. During a TCS event, the ABS control module sends a requested torque value to the ECM/TCM (L81) or PCM (L61). The ECM/TCM or PCM initiates an engine torque reduction routine to slow down the drive wheels.

This routine consists of ignition timing reduction, fuel injector cut-off and transmission shift control. The ECM/PCM also sends a torque delivered value to the ABS control module. If the engine management routine is insufficient to achieve the desired wheel speed, the ABS control module will then use the TCS isolation valves and prime valves to slow down the drive wheels. The isolation valves close to isolate the wheel circuit from the master cylinder and the prime valves open to allow the motor-driven pump to access master cylinder fluid so it can build pressure to apply the desired brake.

If the ABS control module detects a malfunction, it will disable TCS and will command the BCM to turn the TRAC LED Off. The driver can also disable TCS, if desired, by depressing the TRAC switch. When the driver depresses the TRAC switch, the ABS control module will disable TCS and will command the BCM to turn the TRAC LED Off.

Oddly enough I have a similar problem. I have a base 05 2.2 5spd. No ABS, with the power package and sunroof. I have 48k on it and I have a CEL. I went to Autozone and they didn't find a the light is clearly on. It is confusing. I am the only one who puts gas in the car and I make sure the cap is tight. If you find anything let me know. It does go off intermittently. I have a feeling it's an evap leak.

It's trippong a body specific code that the generic readers don't recognize. I had the same thing happen when My rear o2 sensor went south. AZ and my BIL's code reader, nothing, went to saturn and Viola code city. Hope this helps.
