Hi guys,

First post here, mainly because this is the first issue i've had with my 2002 Vue since buying it a year ago. I have 3 problems I hope you guys can help with.

I have a 2002 Vue 4cyl 5-Speed

1) I have searched extensively and found information, but no solution about this problem other than to take it to a dealer.

About 2 weeks ago in the cold weather I noticed my Service light on, a few days later I noticed my horn doesn't work. I have read up on the two being related. I checked the fuse, and its good. Could it be the horn relay? Is there any way to replace the switch without removing or replacing the air bag? Or to shut off the service light if thats not possible? I dont want to spend $1000 to fix a stupid horn.

2) My clutch has been slipping lately(mainly while accelerating through the lower rpms), I suspect its time for a new one. I'm not a mechanic by trade, but I think I could handle a clutch replacement. The problem is I dont know where to start. Does anyone have any info on this, whether its something I can do in the driveway? Or could I be confusing this problem with another well known issue?

3) Ever since installing an aftermarket stereo(could just be coincidence) only half on my gauge cluster lights light up. None of the needles light, half the speedo and half the tac light up. About a week ago, I noticed I had a bit more light on the dash than normal. I'm guessing maybe there is a loose connector somewhere... or maybe the bulbs are burnt out. I saw a few threads about bulb replacement. I just want to rule out that there isn't a connector somewhere that I may have hit while pulling the dash apart to put in the stereo before I go tearing the gauges apart and testing light bulbs.

Any information you guys could provide would be awesome.
Thanks!

2) I've heard the clutch job is not a job for the shade tree mechanic. I haven't looked at the procedure in the factory service manual, but I've heard you have to pull the engine and transmission in order to seperate the transmission from the engine. My clutch hasn't gone out yet so I don't know for sure.

Excellent, thanks for the replies guys. I will look into the ebay thing.

Does anyone have any more info on my problems?

Does anyone have any more info on my problems?

I've attached a diagram for typical instrument panel and can try for more detailed schematics if they'll help.

Let me know.

Something about that dash illumination wire and the stereo harness, rings a bell. I just installed my stereo and had to wire the crutchfield GM harness to the adapter harnass for the stereo. No dash lighting issues, but I seem to remember a wire for dash illum on the stereo supplied harnass that was not needed, thus taped off. Pull that console and make sure nothing is being pinched in the many adjoining plastic snap together parts. :ugh: I wonder if theres a clutch pressure sensor somewhere being fried by installation issues with your stereo?

I'm not sure if this is applicable since you don't have a location listed, but are you sure the clutch is actually slipping? In cold weather, my front tires break away easily, and in moderate to hard acceleration, it's not common for them to slip smoothly (Kumho Solus KR21s with about 10K on them). At first I thought my clutch was slipping, but the speedo jumps when this is happening.

Just a thought!
