Im thinking that i might need to replace the t-stat on my 2003 Vue 3.0L because my temperature gage does not go above 1/4 of the way up. This is the first time ive ever owned a Saturn but i have always noticed that on all my other cars the temp gage is always 1/2 way on the gage. So i am guessing that its possibly a t-stat probelm. :hmm: Does anyone know where the gage should read on this vehicle? This might be normal but i would like to be sure before taking on this project.

Thanks for you help.

The correct reading on an '03 should been right between 1/4 and 1/2. If it's sitting on 1/4 or lower, the t-stat needs to be replaced. We just replaced the t-stat on a family member's '03 and it made a huge difference. We never knew it would put that much heat out. The thermostat issue is known for the 3.0L if you search around the boards, as numerous people have had to replace theirs, too.

Here's a very recent excellent write-up on your nightmare; http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133854

Be aware that the thermostat is between the cylinder banks requiring removal of the intake manifold to have access for removal and replacement. According to your posted mileage, the timing belt and water pump are due for replacement also.

Do not replace the thermostat until you get a P0128 code with 'service engine soon' light. Your gauge may just be a tad off. If it's running cold, it will trip the code. $400 at the dealer.
