Your transmission would cost a fortune to fix if it isn't. I think it's a bit insane to roll the dice on something like that to save a couple of dollars a quart. Penny wise and pound foolish. I'd get either the Z1 fluid from a Honda dealer or the GM equivalent.
Good luck.

I used GM Z-1 last fluid change ($7.50 per quart) but intend to try Castrol equivalent next time.
Castrol was recommended by Vue04 from LA (as in California - not lower Alabama). ;)
More about the product here:

The list of compatible fluids is unreal but the Castrol folks have a good rep.

I've been using Amsoil ATF for 14,000 kms (~8800 miles) thus far without any issues.

If it meets the manufacturer's specs and says so on the bottle, I would use it.

I can't agree with Ritz more. The tranny is the most likely part to go bad here (aside from maybe your RDM), and you're wanting to save $20 on fluid changes? CRAZYTALK! Just suck it up, buy a case of Z1 and have the peace of mind in knowing that you got the real stuff.
