Looking through my FactoryServManual at the processes involved in removing the intake for the 3.0L L81 engine, to get to the spark plugs, as well as replacing the camshaft covers which are leaking oil progressively worse. The FSM mentions using an overhead engine support bar system to aid in replacing the serpentine belt, which I dont have. I guess I need to know if anyone has done these things, and if it is as difficult as the FSM seems to infer. Could someone recommend any other 100K maintenance items I should take care of while the intake is off? I am pretty sure I can do it, just concerned about any surprises anyone else might have run into when performing these maintenance issues. An earlier post mentioned "springs" in the intake? hmm...
I hate taking anything to the dealer, that 300.00 labor could go to a new evap core in my 70 dart swinger...

A floor jack under the oil pan works just as well as the support bar.

Replace the thermostat while you have the intake lifted. Inspect the coolant crossover pipe for leaks. Also, have a look at the oil cooler to check for signs of leaks. And it's a good idea to replace the vacuum hoses while you have access.

The springs in the vacuum chamber can fail, but it's not common.

A floor jack under the oil pan works just as well as the support bar.

With a block of wood (a section of 2x6 about a foot long would be perfect) to distribute the force of the jack so you don't bend/crack the oil pan. :)
