Burning smell inside my vue!

My rearview defog and whipper stopped working at the same time. On top of that, there's a burning wire/plastic smell inside my VUE 2004.

Is it the relays, switches... what do you recommend. Where do I start looking? :dizzy:

See attached diagrams for 04 Vue wiper and defog circuits.

Not much in common fuse-wise but relay control for both originates in BCM.

Have you verified status of fuses for both systems?

I assume both harnesses are joined at lift gate area. If they welded, this would be one of many places to examine.

You probably have a short in the wires inside the flexible boot for the liftgate, or inside the body near that location. The first thing to do is to pull the fuses that control those circuits so there's no more damage. Then you can look for it when you feel like it, since you can live without either function. Fortunately this is one of those electrical problems you can find by sight. There should be no mistaking the affected area when you see it. Hopefully you will be able to splice in some replacement wire.
