Anyone have any idea why the price of motor oil has skyrocketed? I checked some receipts I have and last fall I paid $1.99 a quart with a $1 rebate for Valvoline. That same oil is now $45 for a 12 pack, $3.75 a quart. Crude has gone from $125 to $45 and motor oil has doubled; whats up with that?

I wonder if it is because that oil was produced from crude oil that was priced high at the time. It would make you think that it would be going down again. Maybe they figure we are used to the price now and will continue paying it.

I saw 5 qts Valvoline with a filter for $16.99 at O'Reilly Auto Parts.
Oil prices don't bounce as swiftly as gas prices, and they tend to be sticky. The dealers and companies use this to profit from the consumer even though crude dropped significantly.
It just like grocery prices, they raised them when crude went up, and they are not lowering them when crude drops back down.

The 'big folks' will always screw the 'little folks' . . .

The basic MO of the oil industry is that prices are quick to go up and sticky to come back down. I mean, hell, oil is back down to $40/barrel and gas prices (at least around here) have gone back up to about 2.05 and haven't budged any lower.
