2003 Vue about 105,000 miles ran like a champ since new then started bogging down and losing power about one week ago, till now not able to drive- car idles fine.

I have:

1. Checked air filter and inspected air intake for obstruction- all good and clear.
2. Checked tail pipe for blockage. Looks good.
3. Changed fuel filter. What a pain.

We did have a good front end bump about a month ago sliding on ice into a guard rail that did dent the front bumper a bit and cause gas gauge to stop functioning properly.

Any ideas?

Do you have a check engine light displayed on instrument panel?

I'm basically "holding your hand" until the bright folks come on board.

See attached file for typical problems / solutions. This is document the dealer would use to isolate problem source. Perhaps you can check a few of them.

I'm reexamining my tailpipe analysis. I am now thinking there IS some blockage, perhaps from one of the catalytic converters, and will have the exhaust system checked out more thoroughly at a muffler shop.

Did you also run over something in your "bump"? Sounds like your a component of your exhaust system is "constricted".

BTW the post by far2grumpy is great for us with the L81 V6!!

Kind of neat how they test for restricted converters - they drill small holes before and after the suspected restriction and measure the pressure differential. The holes can be sealed with a screw or a quick hit with a wire welder. I bet in your case the impact with the guard rail dislodged some crud in the fuel system which clogged the injectors. You might need fuel system/injector service.

This may be totally incorrect, but isn't the fuel pump located in the gas tank along with the fuel level indicator?

If that's the case, and your "gas gauge" isn't functioning, you may just need to replace your fuel pump. Something similar happened to my brother's '98 Yukon. It would run pretty well till you put your foot in it, and it just didn't get enough gas. Fuel gauge didn't work either. Replaced fuel pump and all went back to normal.

Those of you who have more knowledge about the fuel pump on a VUE might be able to shed some more light on this.
