Vue rear brake difficulties

Can anyone please tell me the secret to releasing the parking brake cable from the rear brake shoe lever? The vehicle is on jack stands and I am due to work in 3 hours. Have the Saturn brake manual right in front of me and absolutely cannot get the cable to release on either side.

I know there must be a trick would surely be appreciate if anyone can help me out ASAP.

From my shop manual you must:

- raise and support Vue
- remove drum
- disengage adjuster spring hook end from tab on adjuster actuator
- remove straight end of adjuster spring from brake shoe
- remove adjuster actuator from brake shoe
- remove return spring from brake shoes
- remove park brake cable from park brake actuator lever

continue rest of dis-assembly
