This is a 2003 Vue 4 cylinder with a five speed. I am hoping it is a linkage problem and not the transmission. 2nd 4th and Reverse won't engage. If the car is off, I can sometimes get it into reverse and then start it. I also can't find a shop manual for this car. Any help would be great!

Thanks

Your Vue has cable linkage for the shifter, therefore it's not unusual for the adjustments to get out of whack and require service. From what I've been told it can be tricky to rig and is best left to a pro. As far as a service manual goes it seems Haynes and Chilton didn't get the rights, so you're stuck with a factory manual (spendy!) or whatever this forum has to offer, which has served me well so far. Good luck!

Just do a search, it's been covered many times.

I found the problem. The threaded part of the connector seemed to have jumped the threads and pushed to the back. Once I popped the clip and moved it back, the gears came back. 1/4 inch makes a lot of difference. Anyway, I will test drive it tomorrow and if it jumps again, I will replace the end. It seems to be a poor design to me. May be there is an after market part that would take care of the problem.

;)Another note worth mentioning is I too had a zip tie close to where the cables met the transmission. It didn't look to be holding anything, so I took it off. So far so good. I will report back after I change the transmission fluid. Thanks for all the help!

I had the same thing happen a few years ago. I had snapped the cable end off on mine hope your holds up.
