Good day,

Lately, over the span of the last few months I've run into some problems with my 2002 V6 Vue with 142,000 miles.

The major one is the typical valve cover oil leak. I checked it and bolts on the cover were soooooo loose that i was able to unscrew them by hand. So I tightened them back up but I only tightened them snug + 3/4 of a turn because I didn't want to break anything. Does anyone know what the torque value is for these bolts? I searched the forum for an hour and couldn't find the value. I found posts that claim the value is somewhere on the forum but I have not been able to find it.

While I was in the engine compartment i went ahead and relocated the crankcase vent tube (PCV tube) over the top of the engine. I only needed to remove the end connected to the air intake though. I plan on taking the intake off soon to get to the spark plugs and fully remove the tube. To see if the tube was clogged, I used the oil dip stick and pushed it all the way in. When i took it out, it was covered in this wierd green sludge. Does anybody happen to know what this crap is?

There's a knocking sound on rough roads from the back of the Vue. I'm assuming these are the shocks right?

yzracer 14 ... I'm assuming the valve covers are also called camshaft covers and torque value is per attached.

The gunk in PVC hose is probably residue from engine blow-by. It'd be good to get "all" that stuff out to keep from freezing and blowing your gaskets out.

Don't know about the knocking sound ... if you don't have something loose in back-end like jack or spare tire guess it could be shocks.

The "valve cover" gaskets on the 02 and 03 models of the V6 (L81 engine) are prone to failure. I had mine replaced at my 100 kmile service (when I did the timing belt, etc).

Before the change, I too had tried tightening up the bolts. They were loose and could be tightened my hand. Problem is, you can't get access to all the bolts unless you pull the intake manifold...
