I'm looking around for the paint code location. Isn't the GM paint code normally on the sticker in the driver's door jamb?

I need to order some paint and clear coat to shoot the new lower door molding to replace the one that fell off my VUE. :(

Or maybe someone knows the code for black on a 2006 AWD VUE?

Cheers,

Should be on the drivers door jam or door, that is where I found mine. The white is a two stage paint with Clear (I never had luck match two stage paints) :dizzy:.

You probably have already seen this but http://www.automotivetouchup.com/paint-codes/saturn.htm

Ahhh...found it. It was in none of the usual locations. It was on the door jamb on the driver's side rear door. In case anyone wants to know, the code for black in 2006 was WA-U8555.

Just ordered a can of basecoat, clearcoat, and a spray can of plastic primer.

Be carefull with that spray bomb primer it may wrinkle when you apply the base coat test on something other than the parts to be painted before you make yourself a whole mess of work.

We'll see. It's professional autobody primer designed to promote adhesion to plastic parts. It's not Rustoleum. :)

I finally got all the paint and the replacement part for the door of our VUE. The lower molding at the trailing edge of the passenger side back door just fell off while my wife was driving....sigh. After a few hours of prep and painting the new part appears to match perfectly.

What I did:

To the extent possible I created a dust free area in my garage. (shopvacuumed the floor)
Kept the paint inside overnight so it would reach 70F.
Turned on the kerosene heater until it was 70F inside the garage.
Rinsed the plastic part with prepsol (removes wax/silicone/release agents)
Air dried the part for 15 minutes.
Wet sanded the part with 1500grit sandpaper.
Wiped down with lacquer thinner+papertowel and air dried for 15 minutes.
Sprayed 2 light coats of plastic primer about 10 minutes apart.
Let dry for 20 minutes.
Sprayed 4 medium coats of base coat 5-10 minutes apart.
Let last coat dry for 30 minutes.
Sprayed 4 heavy (but not heavy enough to run) coats of clear 5-10 minutes apart.
Let it dry over night.

I'll wait a month or two before I polish and wax it, but it's got a mirror finish now (no orange peel!!! Yay!) and appears to match the factory paint very well. If I was a perfectionist, I'd wait a couple of days and then wet sand the top coat with 2000 or 2500 grit, but it has a deep mirror finish already and I'm feeling a bit lazy.

I bought the paint (mixed in aerosol cans) here:
