in my '06 vue redline w/ 3.5l v6 w/ ~95K miles my oil drain plug is leaking again. I've already had the pan retapped and installed a larger size plug due to it being stripped and leaking before so now it is time to fix it right with a new oil pan.

So, I was wondering if the oil pan is interchangeable between all the honda 3.5L j35X engines or if there are certain models that are interchangeable or not at all. The reason is that the honda ones are a lot easier to get from the junk yard and other places used thus i can get one much cheaper.

thoughts?

thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure it is the same. I had the valve cover replaced with a Honda one is it fit perfectly. I can't imagine why an oil pan would be different- it is the same Honda engine. You can buy one from Saturn and don't open it and buy from Honda and compare which one you want. Then return the unopened one.

You need to get a fumoto oil drain valve or a fram oil drain valve. They are devices that let go the oil with the touch of a switch or in Fram's case, screwing in the hose. This prevents wear and tear on the threads- famous for being weak.

Here's an article on to repair the weak oil pan if interested:

I believe another J35 pan would fit. It's just a crappy job, you have to drop the downpipe for the exhaust in order to get the pan out.

thanks for the feedback. when looking on websites for the part number for different models that had the j35, i found all different part numbers for the oil pan. i would have thought they would have the same part number if they were all the same. thoughts?

thanks again.

The pans show different in my interchange program:

this doesn't mean they don't fit but clearances may be different for the Accord/Pilot/TL/Odyssey than the VUE.

Here's the 06 Pilot Pan 3.5L:

They look pretty close, maybe depth is different.
