I have read of this happening on this forum, but I didn't realize how easily the hazzard switch can break and fall into the dash. I was dropping off stuff at a busy flea market so I stopped in the street, and I guess I may have pushed the switch a little faster than normal. When it fell through it was blinking, so I thought I was going to have to drive home with these lights going. I gave it a quick poke with my finger and got it to stop. I have an extended warranty, so I guess this will be covered. Does anyone know if the replacement switch has been improved or will this happen again? If I didn't have the warranty, I would try to rig something to get it to stay there. Well when I make my appointment, I will make sure they have the part in stock. I wasted trips in the past, like where they didn't have something as simple as a washer nozzle when they were popping out.:upset:

You're gonna want to hot glue it back in, that works well.

Should I be pro-active and add hot glue to the back of mine before it snaps off?? May be a good idea I guess. How hard is it to get the center console that the switch is mounted in off?? Don't want to break anything else in the process.

I thought if I did have the dealer fix this, it would probably break again being made no better than before,:snide: so I fixed it myself.

When I had it apart and saw the switch mounting bracket, I could easily see how it broke. How much cheaper could you have made that thing? :upset:

What I did was put in a small set screw through the bracket to catch one of the two protusions on the switch to keep it in place. The hole had to be just in front of where the switch is to keep it in. I started the hole with a small soldering iron, and then put in the screw. It felt pretty secure once it was in.

After seeing how delicate the bracket is made, even where it attaches to the back of the bezel, I will try to be more careful now when using the hazzard switch.

I disconnected the temperature control cables from the back to get more play when working on things, and found it a little tricky getting it back just right so the knob is centered. I am definitely in no hurry to get "in behind there" any time soon!:dizzy:
