first of all... great fourm you guys. I just joined. searched around to find the answer to my question but no thread seemed to hold the answers... so, here goes.

I just bought a used 2005 vue. It has the factory amp and subwoofer w/ 6 speaker sound and MP3 6 disc head unit.

I bought an alpine head unit for it because i wanted proper i-pod control and display.

I Purchased the aftermarket harness & adapter that crutchfield recommended... scosche recommended it too.

Right now the subwoofer is not working and the back speakers are sound pretty bad(maybe blown)

I got some JBL's to throw in the rear doors.

I'm no pro but i've installed plenty of head units and a couple amps in my day.

But the whole factory amp has me worried. Its got like 20 wires going to it. I would like to keep the amp and the factory woofer and just trade the head unit.

is this the right harness for the a stereo with factory amp and woofer?

do i need an amp bypass harness?

how does the amp hook up to the factory stereo? why so many wires?

does the head unit power the 4 door speakers?

if the head does power the 4 door speakers would it be easier to just install an after market amp so i can hook it up w/ RCA cables? considering, since the subwoofer isn't working... maybe the amp has crapped out.

any wiring diagrams for this set up floating around anywhere?

thanks for reading!!! sorry so many questions. :D

i worked it out. thought i'd follow up.

the subwoofer isn't broken. nor is the amp... i just couldn't tell it was working. i thought the bass was coming from the front speakers.

the amp has a built in line output converter and crossover. it is only powered by the front speakers tho. so if i fade it all the way back to the new JBL's in the back, i get no sub... :-(

and i did have the correct harness. there is another harness going to the back of the head unit tho... i think its for on-star. but i don't have or care about on-star... so...

thinking about replacing the amp with an aftermarket amp and running some RCA's down there.

would still need a pinout of the harness' tho. i would like to reuse the accessory on and power. and i would have to patch the front speakers together.
