Ok so the head light sensor on the dash turns on my headlights way to early for me so I want to put a switch in. Has anyone ever taken this out? I have not pulled it out or looked to see how many wires are there or nothing... I just want to know how to pull it out and how to switch it if anyone has done this before.

If you had the wiring diagram and information for the Daytime Running Lights (DRL's) you'd notice that there was quite a bit of thought when GM/Saturn came up with a broad safety lighting system to accomodate almost every conceiveable lighting scenario to develop running lights for daytime driving. Obviously there are the few situations that aren't accomodated - those that don't like it simply remove the DRL relay or seek out simple modification to it to disable it for manual control and still allow future use by unmodifying it for sale of their vehicle to another owner. Its not as simple to modify the solar sensor as no one has posted any mod to the sensor to change when the DRL's go off and turn on the regular headlights as well as all the marker lights so you may be on your own with this. I've had my own dissatisfaction with DRL's at the beginning but slowly came around to accepting it as I learned that mine does not use full power to run in DRL mode and understand that the lamps will last longer this way in addition to enjoying fully automatic lighting that seems to fit in almost every condition.

I have already bypassed the daytime running lamps since I plan on using HIDs I just want to dissable the solar sensor since it seems to think anytime besides 11am-4or 5pm is dark which it isnt.. and if there is any clouds blocking the sun they are on. It tricks my gps into night mode and during the day it is very very hard to see that way XD. I wish gm had thought of the headlight off switch like most other gm vehicles have.

Also, a minute point, it burns gas. Maybe a teaspoon per gallon, but it does it just the same. When I bought my VUE (new), I asked about that and the salesman said that if I manually turn that feature off, I will only save about 4% of the gas. I find that hard to believe, it seems high, but it stuck in my mind. 4% of a gallon of gas is about 16¢, so about a buck sixty on a fill. Hmm, I may just go relay hunting. Do you have any pics on which relay it is?

In addition to wasting gas, it reduces the duty cycle of the bulbs. Personally, I think DRLs are a waste of money and don't do any good until you get to that twilight portion in the early morning and just before sunset. An ideal solution for me would be NO DRLs and a more aggressive light sensor that would activate the auto-on headlights before it's pitch black.

Cheers,
