Hey all,

I have an 03 AWD 2.2 liter automatic. I need to drain all the fluid out of the transmission and make sure I get every bit out of the transmission before I refill it with the new stuff.

I am kinda techy for a girl, and I will be doing this myself. I need to know if it would be better to pull the drain plug, and fill it from the dipstick a few times until the fluid comes out looking the same as when I put it in, or should I get one of those suction pumps to pull the fluid out?

I have liquid in the tranny fluid that I need to get out before it does any permanent damage to the seals. Please, if anyone has any advice, down to telling me exactly where the drain plug is located so I can begin to get my car running right again, I would me MOST appreciative!

You have a VTi not an auto, since that's the only 2.2 with AWD. A gallon of Dex-CVT is around $50, and a full 2x drain and fill, the procedure GM calls for, requires 2 gallons, 1 quart, and the special additive.

As such, you don't want to drain the transmission yourself. If you're having any sort of problem with it, take it to a dealer and complain. Chances are they will gladly replace the fluid, put in an additive, and recalibrate the TCM. That's assuming you're inside 5 years/75,000 miles.

Or, if you're willing to wait until February or March, the class action lawsuit will be finalized by then.
