Hi guys, I got a great little story and maybe someone can help me out. I am not much of a car girl, so bear with me.
I have an 03 Vue AWD 2.2. I just recently (2 months ago) had a brand new transmission put in it because of the problem with the vti that those cars have.
So, I have this brand spankin new tranny and everything is fine. Until I let my boyfriend change the oil. After he got finished with that, he decided to top off some of the other fluids. He wanted to make sure the radiator had enough coolant in it, so he looked in the owners manual to find the radiator cap to check the level. The owners manual said that the cap will say "DEX" something on it. So he pulled off the cap that said "DEX" on it, saw that it looked empty, and filled it up with coolant.
About 30 minutes later, we jumped in the car and it wouldn't shift out of 1st gear. I pull over, my boyfriend and my father look under the hood, and thats when my boyfriend realized what he did. The transmission cap and the radiator cap both have "DEX" on them, and he had poured the coolant into the transmission.
We drove it right back to Saturn (at 15mph the whole way) and the did a flush. They drained all the coolant out, ran some transmission through it, drained that, and then refilled it. It started up and drove fine after that. They said that it was okay because we didn't let the coolant sit too long in the car, so that the seals probably didn't get moisture in them. Yay.
Since then, I have put about 300 miles on the vehicle, and suddenly today, it won't shift out of 1st gear again. I am petrified that this means that the seals did get moisture in them and that the entire transmission is shot.
I am hoping there is someone in these forums that knows about the transmissions in these vehicles, and can tell me if the car is screwed forever, or if there is something I can do to fix it. I can't afford a new transmission.
Anyone have any ideas??
