Hey guys, I am trying to find some cool white led plate lights...just always liked the look. Anyways, all these hong kong specials are selling bulbs as T10/194/168....and they are NOT all the same. I know this as i bought 2 for a grand total of 7 bucks....but now side by side with my 168 they're much bigger. Anyone know where I could actually get some white 168's?

Help is appreciated,

What does the base of the 24 look like? Might be a way around this problem.

Box of 19/$4.20

Is the base the same size as a 168/194?

In my car, the plate lights are the same as the bumper lights. There is no base, just a bulb.

Except the wires are tucked up along the flat part of the bulb. I don't think LEDs will make a difference over bulbs, since you don't even see the bulbs themselves.

Yes I realize there is no "base" but when getting a LED replacement that bottom part of the bulb becomes very important. I know the incandescents are easy to come by....but like I origionally posted...I like the look of the cool white plate lights. Its not to rice up my car...its very modest. only lighting mods are flashing side marker and blue instrument lights. So my mission is to find some of these. I ordered some more from hong kong today...(5 bucks ish total with shipping) that are a 5mm base. I mic'd my 24's and theyre ~4.6 so these should be the ones.

That's a typical wedge base lamp. Like a 194, 168... The led's I posted above are brighter and emit that cool bluish white light. They use surface mounted led's on several sides and the end.

I found the 5mm LED bulbs in England. That was why I asked what size they were as I could not get a drawing for the 24. I think the 24 is a 5mm bulb.

OldNuc it would seem that way. I got 2 5mm's on the way. They're from Hong Kong though...so now I wait. I'll be sure to report the results as soon as they arrive...in case anyone else is interested. Like I said, I just see all the high end cars having nice cool white on their plates and it looks really cool and clean...if I can do it for $5....what the heck!? :)

The later cars have different bulbs I think. If not it will be nice to have a source of that 5mm bulb. You get a Welcome to (insert name of town or state here) ticket if either one is out. LEDs last for a very long time.

EDIT
Just checked, I have 168s in the licence lights.:D

I suspect that they were a revision with the Gen-2 and up. If I could not get LEDs to fit I think I would look into a socket change, those 24s are an odd bulb.

oh for sure....not even...solder leads to the metal or something....the twist lock dealy basically seals out the elements so whatever rigging is inside the light housing doesnt have to be pretty. I d just use the 194's I just got in the mail the other day!

I have clear bumper lights, with hyper white bulbs. I thought about getting another pair for the license plate, but I don't think it would even be noticeable.

The LED's i suggested do a significant job illuminating the license plate.

The cool white light looks really good compared to the dingy yellow incandescent light.

Ya. I have a new plate, too. I have to order another hyper white, because water got in my bumper lense and shorted out the bulb, so I'll probably just order 3 and do my plate light.

Yeah that looks really good....too bad I'm only 1 1/2 days into my wait for bulbs from hong kong :dizzy:  at least they were cheap.
