Lately my 2002 Vue (2.2L) has been getting the service light with the wrench on. The dealer wants a minimum of $95 just to read the code. We are not seeing any problems with the Vue that were not there before the light started showing up. There are no OBD II codes storied at all and I understand that a special $3k tool is needed to get the codes related to the service light. Is there any magical key sequence to make it dump out the service code? I suspect it may be the BCM at fault but don't to spend thousands of dollars for the dealer to scratch their heads when it might be a simple problem I can check myself.

One thing I had noticed is that we had an issue with the steering column, bushing, horn blowing and air bag back when the Vue was still under warranty. At first it was lubed and then the entire steering column was replaced along with the airbag. The problem went away but sometime after the intermittent wiper feature, wiper on when using washer fluid, and rear wiper functions no longer work. The mist, rear wash, slow and fast front wiper features work normally. I was suspecting a loose connection related to the steering column work but have not had time to test it yet. As it is just annoying and we use Rain-X so we never use the intermittent wiper function.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

You can disconnect the battery to dim the wrench light.

I would also suspect an electrical connection problem in the cable harness. I had similar issue while my Vue was under warranty. Made the techs mental as they finally discovered a wire break that was still covered with the insulation. The wire would make and break connection and cause the light. Evidently the harness break was under the trans shift lever. They gave me the cable harness after they found the break. You would never know the wire was broken inside the insulation. Thank you God it was still under warranty as it would cost bucks for a tech to try and trace it after warranty!!

Hope this helps you.

Looks like me and the DVM are going fishing. At least I have some semi-cruddy schematics from an online DIY site. They are really chopped up badly but give the wiring colors.
