Excessive oil consumption?

I have a '04 VUE with 100,000 miles on it. I am pretty good about changing the oil every 4,000-5,000 miles. Lately I have been going through oil like nuts!

I am adding at least 3qts between changes!!

I see no smoke, reduction of performance or MPG and no oil drops!

Any idea of things I should check before I go to the dealer and spend big $$$$?

Whoa! 3 qts is a lot. Its going somewhere. Look in the coolant bottle to see if there's any oil sludge in it.

Oy... good lord.

Something's definitely not kosher... the 2.2 isn't a known oil burner.

My '02 with 99K on it that sees high RPM quite frequently uses maybe 1/2 quart every 3,000 miles.

Pull the plugs and look at their condition. This could isolate the problem to a particular cylinder.
