I just finished changing spark plugs on my 04 saturn vue, ecotec 2.2 4cyl engine. First you have to remove the yolk connection on the right side of the engine block. It is a wire harness connnected to a aluminum heat sink that is on top of the black cover on the engine. Once that is done you will need to remove the yolk connection on the black air unit that is platic. The yolk is connnected to the black air unit, then you will need to remove the hose that is just below the yolk connection that is on the black air induction unit. Once that has been completed, move on the the compression rings that hold the black air induction to the air filter box and to the air carburator. These compression rings can be losened by using a flat head screw driver. One of the rings is between the air filter box and the ribbed hose, the other compression ring is down towards the yellow dipstick towards the front of the car. The black air induction unit can now be removed. You may want to have a plastic sandwich bag and rubberband in order to place over the exposed carburator in order as not to have dirt fall in. With the air induction unit off, remove the four bolts that surround the black cover that says "ECOTEC 2.2". These 4 bolts require the 10mm socket to remove. Once the bolts are removed pull up on cover, it will come out if you pull up from one end, then pull up from the other. Once the cover has been removed you will see the four deep holes for the spark plugs. Make sure when removeing the spark plugs you have a deep socket with extension for the ratchet, since the spark plugs are about 3 inches deep into the manifold cover. It took me about 28 minutes to swap the four plugs. The gap for my 4 cyl 2.2 Ecotec engine was .43. Hope this helps, if need pics I can provide them with closeups if needed. :D:D

I know this thread is old (but hey, at least I DID use the search to find it), but I would like to see the pics....I just hit 100K miles and I plan to do my plugs SOON!

TIA!

I couldn't get the "boots" to "pop" on to the plugs like normal plug wires do. Looking at the wear on the old spark plugs, I'm guess the just sorta "ride on top" inside the boot. Does that sound "normal" ?

I took it for a test drive and everything seems fine. Oh, and I used the Bosch Platium +4 plugs.

Instructions were right on the money! Thanks for taking the time to write them down. I had an idea of where they were and how the plugs should be changed, and your instructions were right on the money!
