2004 Vue with V-6 Honda engine - 40,000miles - oil and filter changed every 3,000 miles - it is now almost due for the next change. Oil level is where it should be. Couple of days ago the dashboard light on the lower right side with an oil can and wrench symbol started to stay on for about 25 seconds after starting the engine then it goes off. ( NO it is not the light that reminds you that oil change is overdue...)
So - before this symptom began all dash lights would go off after a couple of seconds after engine started -
Vehicle runs fine otherwise - Anyone has experienced anything like this?

could be too thick of a oil when cold - may take a few seconds to build pressure to turn off light when starting? maybe???

The light you are describing is the oil change light and the light stays on for about 20-30 seconds after start. Are you reseting the oil Life monitor system when you change the oil? The computer does not auto reset since it does not know you have changed the oil. If you've put less than 10,000 miles on it, it may have finally calculated that you needed a change even though you have been changing at shorter intervals.

Also, are you saying all dash lights go off when they shouldn't or that they all were going off as expected, and now the oil/wrench light stays on for a bit?

Process to reset OLM is to turn the key to the run position without starting the car and press the accelerator pedal 3 times within five seconds. The oil/wrench light will blink for a few seconds to let you know it has been reset.

how many miles does it take to turn on again
because with redline oil or any other synthetic you should be good doing 5 k
not 3 k like conventional oil

GM says the Oil Life Monitor (OLM) calculates the need for an oil change based on mileage, temperature and engine run time among other factors.

Sounds good if that is actually what happens. My 05 V6 OLM light comes on around 8K. OnStar emails me with data from my VUE. The emails show a percentage of oil life left. I rarely wait for the light but I'm not changing at 3K. The latest info on oil life is that at 3K standard oil is still good, a 5K-6K change interval would be sufficient.

That said (aside from cost) you can't hurt anything changing more frequently.

Our OLM seems to go off like clockwork at approximately 6500 miles. Sounds like whoever changed the OP's oil forgot to reset the OLM. If he's sure it's been recently changed, I'd just reset it. Turn the key to the on position (without starting) and press the gas pedal all the way down three times within 5 seconds. The light will blink for 20-30 seconds letting you know that it's been reset.

Mine goes off right around 8K miles. I have stuck to changing on the light and usually find the oil is pretty clear draining. But, 90% of my mileage is highway and I drive it pretty lightly off the starts.
