Team,

Does anyone know how to reset the Honda 5 speed auto trans back to factory default? Since this trans is supposed to "learn" driving habits, I'd like to start over and see what happens.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

You can remove the negative battery cable and step on the brake pedal five times (or remove the negative cable and touch the negative cable terminal to the positive cable terminal and keep it there for about five minutes to be sure). This will kill the keep alive memory for the drivetrain. You could pull the PCM fuse, but this won't kill the keep alive memory.

Gerry,

Thanks again - it worked great.

Is this procedure in the shop manual(s) from Saturn? I looked for quite awhile prior to posting my question.

Now I'll see if I can "train" the trans to shift better with no hang ups! The dealer says that all is aok and it shifts just like most 3.5 Vues. I've driven Honda Odysseys and they all have faster shifts than I have. I also have driven several Vues and they all shift like mine - sloppy.

Thanks again,

Rob

how can you tell if it reset??

I cannot be certain, but the shift from 2nd to 3rd is suddenly quicker with no hangups or hunting. The shift from 1st to 2nd has always been quick and positive. The 3-4 and 4-5 shifts have always been good, but not as good as the 1st to 2nd.

If this lasts, I will be really happy.:):)

Won't the trans just 're-learn' it's old habits over time?

You're a little late to the party, Robert.

Yup... but he's a changed man. :D

He's going to drive like there's an egg between his foot and the accelerator pedal...

My VUE hasn't been in the places or situations my SC experienced... My SC learned some bad habits... :)
