I'm having the RPM fluctuations at steady idle (around 35MPH or so)...Does anyone know how much this costs to replace? :(
my vue has 88k miles on it. 04 V6 AWD
thanks

A steady idle at 35mph? Do you mean the while cruising at a steady 35mph that the rpm fluctuates?
I doubt it's the torque converter, but that's easy enough to diagnose. It would be rather expensive to replace the converter since the trans(and engine) has to come out. I'd be sure that was the problem before heading down that path...absent a diagnostic pointing to that as the problem. It could be any number of things, like the MAF, that could cause a drifting engine speed.

My 07 with 27k miles doest it occaisonely as did my 04. My 05 & 06 didn,t have this issue.

I've read the threads on here with people having the same issue as I am...and it's spot on. They say it's the TQ...I may change the oil to synthetic first to see if it quits...but it doesn't seem to be an uncommon problem

I had the same problem with my 2004 V6 FWD VUE and I changed the transmission oil to Amsoil and problem has been gone since I did it 5 months ago.
EGR :clock:
(I had to add the clock icon or something because 5 characters is the minimum for a post)

Uzzy;
Major BUMP...
What could the EGR have to do with this issue? I paid the dealership big bucks to flush the tranny and it did work.... for a few thousand miles and now its back big time. I want to flush the tranny myself as the procedure does not seem too complex. I want to make sure that I am not going down the wrong repair path.
Can you expound (my big word of the day....lol) on your EGR solution? The paid for tranny flush did the trick for a few thousand miles.
I believe the Vue's transmission's torque converter has suffered low/no maintenance. I am hoping a major flush and constant 15k flush maintenance will be enough to keep the Vue viable.
As you are Master Member status your opinion is very respected. I appreciate your feedback.

Wow, what a bump. I hardly even come here anymore. :blockhead
Anyway if your have a slight fluctuation in RPM while at constant speed, that can sometimes be a result of a dirty, gummed up, malfunctioning or broken EGR valve. The EGR recirculates exhaust gas into the engine. Take it off and if possible check that it is still operable (if it's an old vacuum type do this by pushing in on the membrane and making sure it moves and doesn't sound crunchy. I don't think any VUE ever had a vacuum type, though). Clean it with carb cleaner or something similar (it's been a while I'm sure you can look up a proper procedure in the How-To section). It's usually best if you let it soak a while. Replace it with a new EGR gasket.
Maybe it is your transmission, but it could be as simple as a gummed up EGR valve.

Honda Odysseys with this same 3.5 V6 suffer EGR failures predictably by about 75,000 miles. If you replace and still have the symptoms, you might need the EGR passages cleaned too.
Goto Odyclub.com and search. They've got links somewhere to detailed Honda instructions on how to do this. Well within the skills of anybody who has ever done a brake job.

Did you mean to use the word "flush"? Saturn does not recommend flushing the transmission. Saturn's instructions is to simply change the transmission fluid. Flushing requires special equipment and some less than great dealers use it for extra profit.

RobertGary1,
You are correct. The term flush is incorrect. Drain and refill is correct.
