I have had my 2007 V6 Vue for a year now and have had the oil changed at Saturn dealerships since it was purchased, the price for an oil change ranged from 23 - 25 bucks. My wife took the vehicle to a Saturn dealer in TX and I was enraged to discover the charge for an oil change was over 40 bucks. The snide service adviser stated the V6 required a "Special oil that is not readily available.' I find it amusing because their lot was covered with Vues. I called the dealerships in FL where I frequented and asked what was so special about the oil. Each of the dealerships said there is nothing special. After confronting the service adviser I was informed the recommended oil was 5W20.
When I returned home, I cross-referenced a few of my invoices and discovered the part stock numbers for the oil were all the same.
Also, if I elect to use 5W30 oil, will this void any warranty?

40 bucks is crazy for an oil change IMHO. Do you have the means to do it yourself or just not want to fuss with it?
I don't know why you would want to go with the 5W-30 instead of the Honda recommended 5W-20 though. Not that it would hurt anything, except you may take a small mileage hit. Talking to lots of other folks who have Honda engines, in Accords, Pilots, Ridgelines, etc., the consensus is that 5W-20 and even 0W-20 are great in sub-zero temps as well as high heat. Go over to the Bob is the oil guy forum and type in Honda and 5W20. This will link you up to tons of great information on the subject. It took me awhile to get my around my thinking that a thinner oil isn't providing adequate protection in warmer temps.
In my case, after researching, I went with Pennzoil Platinum synthetic, (20 bucks for five quarts at Wal-mart and a 6 dollar Purolator Pure One filter). Total time involved, (and I did time this one) was 15 minutes from start to finish. The oil filter and drain plug are very very easy to get to on this vehicle. If you are skinny, you don't even to jack it up.
Wix/Pure One/Napa Gold are all great filters capable of 10,000 or OLM oil change intervals per viewed data from other people's oil analysis. Heck, a good quality conventional oil would work great on a 7500-10K mile oil change. The Honda engines have been showing very good oil analysis following a 10K mile interval with synthetics and even a good quality conventional oil.
Hope this helps.

Motorcraft synthetic blend from Wallie World has been showing excellent UOA results over in BITOG. Forgot about that one!
