Hi.
New to the forums here.
My name is Mike and I have a 2003 Vue V6 with the dreaded P0128 code.
I've read some really great info about replacing the thermostat so far, but I was wondering if anyone has a pictorial on PDF for the replacement? I saw someone has that available for the 2002, but I'm not sure of engine compatibility between the two years.
Either way, Thanks for all the great info so far.
I've had this since 2K4, and have had no problems up till now, so no complaints. I'm just not in a position to plunk down the $3-400 for a shop to replace this for me.
Thanks.
Mike

Hi and welcome to the boards!

My waterpump failed last year on my 2003 V6 VUE. Unlike cars of old, getting to the waterpump is a royal PITA.

I went to the dealership to have it done. It cost about $350 for parts and labor.

You can go to www.alldatadiy.com for specfic info. I you have the tools and the time, you could do it yourself. Seems like it is a 3 hour repair for the waterpump. The thermostat should be easy once you are inside.

Good luck.

Same. The FSM is the same for '02 and '03 with only supplementals and none have to do with the t-stat.

One thing that isn't in the SM is the removal of the intake spacer plate. It sits between the intake and the heads. Nothing real complex about removing it, but it does have to be removed since it blocks access to the right-hand t-stat bolt. As for special tools, yeah, there are a couple. You will need a #10 Torx male 1/4" drive socket and a six inch 1/4" drive extension to remove the intake bolts. You'll also need a #30 female Torx for the spacer plate along with a universal joint.
