All,
I have been reading on here about various noises, and now I have one of my own that I wanted to run by the group for some feedback.
I have a noise that I thought at first was really bad tire noise. My wife is not a fan of the Bridgestone tires that the dealer put on for her, so I went ahead and replaced them with Avon Ranger TSE tires, and had the car aligned. The new tires seem smooth and comfortable, and I am hoping that they have better wet traction than the old ones. The noise however, has persisted. I guess the best way to describe it is like somewhat unreasonably loud tire noise at highway speeds. At certain speeds, it tends to resonate, and sound almost like it is pulsing. When the noise is going, I feel a very slight vibration in the steering wheel. Not a shake like a tire out of balance, but much more subtle, small vibrations. Imagine a vibration with the frequency like holding onto a leaf blower, or string trimmer, but not nearly as intense. I have been reading a lot about people replacing their front hubs. This sounds like kind of a pain, and somewhat expensive (considering I just did 4 tires, and a radiator this week). I guess I am mainly looking for feedback from people who can confirm or deny that it is Wheel Bearings, or CV joints. I would think if it were CV joints that the noise would become much more pronounced around corners, and much less pronounced on straight highway.
Any feedback would be appreciated before I drop another $200 on parts to make this Vue pass 100,000 miles. The end of payments on it is right around the corner. There must be a light at the end of the tunnel. Or maybe it's the train?
Thanks
-Gregg
