Overhaul kits for this transmission will be available very soon. Alto already has the friction kits available, and the full overhaul kit will be available soon:

With the factory transmission repair/service manual, I see no reason why an independent transmission shop cannot rebuild one of these untis.

Sorry to sound crtical..haha, but if I had a VTI Vue, the thought of pulling my transmission every few years sounds joyful. *giggle*
Kidding aside, is the friction kit better than the original?
:)

Call Altos and ask them?

the only hope for Vti owners would be if Saturn recalled them all and put 4 speed autos in them.

PLus they are still warenteed for 75K After that. I woudl hope if a person has had enough problems with it, they would get rid of it.

Our shop has yet to see any problems with the clutch plates (friction materail). The problems all tend to be related to the band, the pullies and the valve body.

I agree 100%
The metallurgy and surface finish on the band and pulleys is very critical.
Anybody who does these as re-manufacture or from scratch will have to be extremely capable.
