Hi,
I've got a 2004 3.5L Vue throwing P0135 and P2253. Can anyone diagnose?
P0135: 02 Sensor, bank1 sensor1, heater circuit malfunction
P2253: O2 sensor, bank1 sensor1, negative current, circuit high.
Thanks in advance.

Just guessing from the two codes that point to either the O2 sensor is disconnected for some reason, wiring torn off or the pre-heater and sensor both failed at the same(?) time. Another guess would be the location, either the front or rear exhaust manifold and not after the catcon. If its disconnected/broken wiring it should be obvious as compared to the opposite one on the other exhaust manifold. This sensor should have at least four wires. Worth a look.

FWIW bank 1 is the rear (firewall) bank
the trouble tree is 22 steps long so if you plan on doing more than checking the basic integrity of the wiring, you should get access to a FSM

check to see if the wires have burned through anywhere, or if it became disconnected. If ya dont see anything, You are gonna need an O2 sensor. Its not very uncommon.

New member, what is an FSM, Factory Service Manual? How does one get one of these?
Thanks

yes FSM is Factory Service Manual
sometime you can find them used on eBay
also your owners manual will have info in the back about the factory source for a new one - I believe they are over 100 bucks these days
If you plan on keeping the car a long time and doing your own work it's a worthwhile purchase.
the much less expensive Haynes (aftermarket) manual is OK but usually doesn't have the detailed trouble shooting on the electronics

FSM is about $ 150 including shipping - There are no Haynes or Chilton manuals for the Vue (yet).
Its 2 books, each about as thick as a good dictionary. Here's the link to purchase one new:

It's been downright nasty outside and I havn't had the will to crank up the garage heater. I also, don't feel like dealing with a shop due to the potentially complicated nature of the diagnosis.
Any qualified, honest, experienced tech near Milwaukee feel like doing some moonlighting? I will pay close to shop rates, but expect profesional service. You can use my three car heated garage, nice floor, etc if you are willing to come to my location.

if i lived near ya i would totally come do the work. What you offer is totally fair. If your feeling so inclined the 02 sensor isnt a hard thing to do.
