Ok folks,
I'm back again. , My 02 Saturn AWD V-6 Vue fuel gauge is acting erratic. Fuel tank is completely "full" and the gauge only reads half a tank.
Possible causes : sending unit ??? sensors ??? Are changing any of these easy to do ? hints ?
Any helpful advice "SINCERELY" appreciated. This car is never a dull moment - just expensive.

My Ion does that too. Took it to the dealership at least 3 times and all they say is the float is stuck. They haven't replaced it yet, but it's been documented. Sometimes it causes the low fuel alert to come on, other times it gradually comes back up to normal. Annoying as anything. I recently moved so I should be able to take the car to a new dealership and start this documentation process all over again. So yeah, it happens, its known, but if you do manage to convince them to fix it, let me know what you told them so I can get my dealership to do the same.

Not sure about the Vue.
This is a common S-Series problem, not related to the float but to the electrical circuit.
Search the S-Series tech forum, Wolfman came up with a fix that might be applicable.

I had the same thing happen with my 2001 SC2 and my 2004 Vue and I had both fixed under warranty. The `04 Vue they said the upper and lower sensors were bad and they replaced them. Had to drop the tank to do it.

High sulfur in some gas attacts the silver used in the sending units (two of them since the tank is set up like a saddle bag). Dropping the tank is necessary. I believe the sending units are available seperately (without the fuel pumps)
Interesting article on the subject:

I had the same problem with my 2005 VUE, I would fill the tank up, especially if it was near empty, and get all kinds of crazy fuel levels on the gauge, sometimes the low fuel light would come on, this would be all with a full tank.
Took it to a dealer, they said, nothing wrong, I changed dealers, second dealer replaced BOTH fuel senders from the tank, so far, no problems.
My car is still under warranty, so I have no idea about the cost of this repair.
