The makers of the new 'yellow' coolant say it's compatible with Dex-Cool orange, so it follows that it would be a good candidate to replace the old Dex-Cool. In other words, even if the flush were not totally effective and a small amount of DC were to remain, bad things would not happen. Anybody done this or heard of it being done? I have two '03s to do soon.

I found out today that most dealers and the better shops use the coolant replacement machines rather than the recyclers of a few years ago, because it's so critical to not mix coolants and to get the system completely full. So I guess I'll take it in and get the Dexcool replaced. I found some very good articles on all the different coolants in use today and their compatibility. I also found that Dexcool does in fact have corrosion inhibitors and water pump lubricant - some posters have stated that it didn't have an 'additive package'. There are some things you can't do with Dexcool, like add conventional additives, add any other kind of coolant or run the system with air in it.

I'd stick with Dex-cool. I haven't heard of any problems with it outside of some specific non-Saturn GM engines.

I have been the victim of three GM V-6's with intake manifold gasket problems. Although I haven't participated in any of the class action suits, they seem to link this problem with Dex-cool.
