Im hoping that my 3.0L V6 L81 AWD doesnt have the VTI trans. But I am not sure since Ive read seemingly conflicting posts on the aforementioned.
Someone please clarify for me?
Thank you very much!!!

The L81 V6 3.0 used in '02 and '03 Vues for double-damn sure does NOT have the VTi transmission. It uses an Aisin automatic.

Story I heard was that they had to use the VTi with the 2.2L because that 4 cyl. was too long to squeeze a conventional automatic in there. Apparently a very big mistake.

sounds like an urban legend- GM never has a shortage of drivetrain options. and the ecotec is HARDLY too long. saturn just wanted to offer something in that segment that no one else had.

Agreed - if GM didn't have something on the shelf they'd buy it from someone else....plus, there's a ton of room under there with the ecotec under the hood. First car I've had in a long time where I could look under the hood and see the ground through the engine compartment.

If the VTi didn't have quality issues, it would have been a good move for Saturn. It has real benefits and would give visibility to Saturn as a technology leader.
The VTi was phased out in the VUE around 04-05. I think only a handful of 05s had it, and only in AWD. Of course it was only mated with the 4cyl.

Big "IF"! Unfortunately GM's great engineering gave Saturn just the kind of visibility it didn't need. Interesting that other companies have successfully implemented a CVT. GM has made some pretty big missteps trying to be a technology pioneer.
