I had to bring my 2007 Vue, V6,AWD back to the dealership to have a roof rack and trailer hitch installed and asked to have my oil & filter changed....
It's got less than 1000 miles but I'm an old school gear head ex-motorcycle racer and it just makes sense to change the oil in a new motor....
The dealer talked my wife out of the service saying that these engines don't need that kind of service.
I'm a fan of Honda's and love the idea that this vehicle is Honda powered, but I still need a good reason not to change the oil since I see it as smart preventive maintance.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Like you, I did my first oil change at around 2k on my 03 ion 2.2. I examined my filter too and found a coupe of smaller slivers of metal in there, though I didn't check to see if they were magnetic, I considered this normal due to break in. I'd rather get all the metal out as early as possible, so it's not floating in there, but then again you have a honda engine.:p
I don't see what the big deal was to the dealer about an oil change when they always try to sell you a "fuel injector flush" or whatever the hell they call it.
If I were you I would change it myself just for peace of mind.

Thanks for the quick response.....
I'm curious as to the logic of not changing the oil....
I'll ask when pickup the car.

Certainly no harm in changing it.
I changed mine around 2k miles. My dealer also told me that there is no "break in" period for these new motors- but you gotta remember, these people are in the business of selling cars and providing service work, so consider that when they respond to you.

Change it... I can't imagine grinding the original oil for the long term. I did my first change at 2400 miles, and used Mobil 1.
I also sent in a UOA on the first two changes. Everything is reading great with the Honda engine... I have a jpg of it in my Photos if you're curious...
I switched over to Mobil1 at about 2500 miles. I also don't like the idea of the break-in slop floating around in the oil. The fancy "change me" oil light has been going off for us at about 6000-6500 miles. So after the initial change, I've been following the idjit light. Once it's out of warranty, I'll move to 7500 mile intervals.

I too switched to Mobil 1 at about 2000 miles using a pure one filter

Not required. Read the manual - original oil does not require changing until the normal mileage/time is met, and changing early may delay break-in/seating. 3000 miles is plenty early to change it. Wait for at least 10K to switch to synthetic.
