If I remember correctly, there isn't a typical dipstick to check the fluid level. The fluid is not meant to be serviced (ever) and I guess if it starts leaking, then you need to do something about it.
When I drained and filled my transmission with some Red Line fluid, there is an inspection hole on the side of the transmission. You remove the plug and you pour fluid into the transmission from the top until fluid just starts to come out of that hole and then you quit.

Manual trans fill/fluid level check plug is by the drivers side wheel well. Round plug 8mm hex to remove. There will be two plugs in the area. The lower one being the drain and the upper the fill/level check.

For the VUE 5-speed manual transmission is the transmission fluid capacity 2.0 US liquid quarts (1.892705892 liters)?

So is it necessary to remove the wheel and wheel well cover to get to it or is it from the engine compartment. I am looking at a snap on cover from underneath in that location (don't want to remove if not needed).
Thanx to everyone who replied.

Through the drivers wheel well. Tire off is best. Can be a pain to get to.

Pretty sure you don't need to remove the wheel well cover. But having the driver's side tire off is probably the only way to go.

Yup, tire off and you look straight over the rotor to the trans and there's a plug bolt that needs a hex socket to get it out.
Dealer told me it uses Dextron III trans fluid :whoa: not gear oil or motor oil like in some smaller cars.
The reason for checking (manual says not to unless leaking)there is a stain and little gunky dirty accumulation at the trans case halves. No wet spots and no puddles on the ground so dealer said not to worry that it was normal weepage.
Hope this is of help to others. :D

I contacted Redline and their equiv is D4ATF. They say service intervals with their full synthetic depending on reg or severe duty at 40 to 50k...sooo if they feel that synthetic is only good for 50 max whats with the "never (we will sell you a new tranny :arr: ) service" jibberish.
*posted this also because it was good info and now its in my usercp :D
