Anyone have EXACT instructions on how to remove a 2.2 engine with a manual transmission? Can we separate manual transmission or do we have to also remove? Cant locate a 2005 Vue manual, so we feel like we are in the dark here. We will be taking engine out the bottom as many have advised. Thanks! Kat

We did it!!!! Took Hubby 5 hrs, but got engine out without taking out transmission. Saturn of Adirondacks lead mechanic actually took time and showed him how to do removal. New engine going in today. Upon inspection looks like there was an oil leak in the back of pan - thats why all this trouble started there was no oil in car. Does anyone know if there is a design flaw with this??

Something had to have punched a hole in the pan. How could it develop a leak?
Hurry, your Summer is coming July 4th, and then it'll start snowing again!!!:D
I give up, how do you drop an engine out the bottom without taking the transmission with it? Where did you get another engine? Is it another 2.2? How did he get it up high enough to yank the engine? How much did the dealer want to do the swap for you?

Nothing that I have heard. The pan is flat hunk of aluminum...supposed to help stiffen and quiet the engine. There are many bolts holding the pan on. The only thing at the back of the pan is the drain plug. Did you get an oil change recently? Maybe someone found the drain bolt on tight, and in typical gorilla fashion torqued it off, bending the lip of the pan ever so slightly, causing a leak. Or the plug itself developed a leak....

1. Tow car to the Bronx.
2. Open hood.
3. Go get breakfast.
4. Come back to see the empty engine compartment.
:)
But seriously....if you want the instructions, it's all in the factory service manual. If you're going to pull an engine, you'll want that anyway.

Are you using your original ECM (engine computer?) if not use the ECM from your old engine.

We are using from old engine. The only thing we switched was the bear engine. I cant locate any wiring diagrams, but think someting is not wired correctly and that is why fuel gauge is not showing full tank of gas and car will not start.

Check for bent or damaged pins on the ECM (engine computer) and verify a properly latched connector.
Verify a solid connection at engine harness to underhood fuse box (tighten the screw).
I believe the fuel pump and gas guage are fed into the ECM (engine computer). Ill drag out my manuals (with wiring diagrams) tomorrow if your still having a problem.

Thanks so much for your help.....it got dark at 9pm here and we just gave up. New engine took all day to get back in Vue and everything hooked up. Tomorrow is another day...we will try your suggestions. Hopefully, Vue will be on road tomorrow ...if not...I might ask you to dig those manuals out.:)Thanks. Kat

Friday PM - No luck...If you have time could you "drag" out your manuals with wiring diagrams and email or fax to me??? If it not too much trouble. Thank you. Kat

As suggested already check the PCM connections and terminals. Check the pins for being bent and the connectors in all the way straight. Do the same thing at the fuse block.

Hubby went to Saturn tech today and for a 12 pack of beer got 1/2 hr of his time to show him what to do.....DUH>>>> one of the wires was not reconnected to the computer after he put in new engine. Chevy Cobalt engine that we put in is running like a charm and seems quiter. Thanks to all for your help.
